I always start out with good intentions (it’s a wonder I haven’t ended up in Hell yet…) but I never seem to make New Year Resolutions stick. I quite like the idea that I saw on Mocha Beanie Mummy where you make one resolution a month; gradually snowballing your early resolutions so that by the end of the year you have 12 really good resolutions. It’s a lovely idea; but I just know that with so much on my plate; I’ll forget a month and then I’ll get disheartened and then it’ll all fall apart. Who needs that kind of pressure?!

So this year, I’ve decided I’m going to give myself goals rather than resolutions. This year is going to be intense. Lots of changes (I hope) at work. MBA steps it up a notch from, um, now, because we have to think up a dissertation topic; find a supervisor, and then start with all the reading for the literature review. My sister’s wedding in April (and all the family commitments that go with that!). John’ll be starting to think about writing up his PhD thesis. We’d also like a bit of a social life y’know?!

When I was thinking about what I want from 2011; two things popped into my head. They aren’t in any particular order; but they are two things that I think are manageable.

1. Cook & bake more. I was reminded at my parent’s home how nice it was to always have biscuits in a tin next to the coffee. Or rusks in a jar. I also want to learn how to make good Thai food. I love love love the basic flavours and I’ve been following She Simmers for a long time now-she’s my inspiration. My idea to ensure that I keep to this goal, is to undertake to blog every recipe I make; so you can follow along with my flops and favs. I intend to at least try to set aside one day, one whole day, each month to get stuck in. To try those recipes that I’ve wanted to try for ages. That’s not to say I won’t do more during the week or at other times; but I want to try to have a ‘Cooking Day’.

2. Take & Print more photos. In our home (which I still) haven’t shown you; we have around 10 or so slightly-bigger-than-A4 frame with photos we took from our Great Road Trip; our favourites. We always get comments on them whenever we have friends around and I always look at them and am immediately transported back to that time. John and I actually take a lot of photos, so maybe the taking of photos isn’t that important. But I do want to print more. They are decorations personal to us that we can pack up and take with us whenever we move. Again, I’ll try share with you when we manage to do that!

Sounds do-able to me!

Otherwise I’m sloooowly getting into the swing of the New Year. Going back to work On Jan 3rd sucks. BUT I’ll be joining John on his field trip just for this weekend; I’ve never been there and his photos are beautiful and this is his last trip sooooo….makes sense really.

I did a whole lot of running around this morning sorting out debit order details for my course this year. As an added bonus, I discovered that the fees in the fees booklet were actually a lot more than the fees I have to pay! Bonus! it’s still a lot, but not as much as I thought it was going to be-so that was a wonderful surprise! Now I just have to pay the deposit and then register and we’re all set for another year.

I have a walk planned with the Girls this evening, then dinner with The Girls. I’m so looking forward to it! I feel like I haven’t seen them in ages and it’s going to be so good to catch up and chat!

That’s all from me for today!
