I know that all the people in the Western Cape have been ‘enjoying’ then heat for the past few weeks, but it’s only hit Grahamstown in the last week or two. Normally, I love the heat. I am not a fan of winter or of being cold. I read the blogs of all of you who are snowed and I literally shiver. I could not deal with that level of cold all the time. I would take my hat off to you but I need it to keep my ears warm!
John and I usually cope with the heat just fine. We sleep nekkid under a sheet. With a fan on. No touching. But last night was ridiculous. It was still more than 25C at 9pm. I tossed and turned when I went to bed. Too hot to get comfortable. Not even the fan was helping. Eventually I gave up and read my book for a while until my eyelids drooped. Fortunately it’s cooler today; not cold. Cooler.
Tonight I’m making this delicious looking dish from Juno at Scrumptious South Africa. I think cauliflower is such an underrated vegetable. I always loved it when I was younger. To me it’s almost buttery. My Mom used to steam it with broccoli and serve it with a cheesy sauce or one it’s own; with a splash of lemon juice. I’m quite eager to explore more cauliflower recipes!
Tomorrow night we’re off to a birthday dinner with some friends at The Yellow House. Pizza and cocktails-yes please! And on Friday I’ll collect my little car that I’m hiring to get me to the airport early on Saturday morning…so that I can have a whirlwind trip around the Western Cape before attending the Food Bloggers Indaba! It’s a little surreal still-but I am SO looking forward to it! Click on the badge below for more info..you can still squeeze in but only if you are quick!
That’s all for now…have a wonderful day!

When it’s that hot, there’s only one thing that works… Take a towel and spritz it with water (not too wet – barely damp). Lie on that and let evaporation do it’s work. It’s the only thing that kept me sane on TSC’s parents’ farm in Namibia, where we didn’t even have a fan.
they heat wave has been so bad this year! See you Sunday :)
